1983 was the last year of the original-style XR250R before Honda replaced it with the much smaller, lighter RFVC-engined model for 1984. It kept the 74 x 57.8 mm four-valve single, six-speed gearbox, drum brakes at both ends and Pro-Link rear suspension, so it was a tough, conventional four-stroke trail and enduro bike.
